Core features

Every feature is polished until it feels effortless.

Pixel-perfect region capture

Drag to capture with a live size badge. An 8× magnifier snaps you to pixel edges, arrow keys nudge pixel-by-pixel, number keys 1–9 lock aspect ratios, ⌘1–⌘9 memorize 9 favorite sizes, and D restores your last region.

  • 8× magnifier with live size & position badge
  • Nudge pixel-by-pixel with arrow keys, ×10 with Shift
  • Repeat last region (⌥X), capture window under cursor (⌥G)

Every capture mode

Hover a window to highlight it and click to capture; full screen, freeform, multi-display. Scrolling capture has two entries — whole-window auto-scroll or a free region — stitched frame by frame with Vision alignment. Clipboard images and local files open straight into the editor.

  • Window capture with optional shadow
  • Scrolling capture: window mode + free region mode
  • Native apps scroll automatically; on the web you scroll, stitching is still automatic

  • 4 mosaic styles + Gaussian/motion blur, feathered edges
  • Three highlight modes: rectangle / pen highlighter / spotlight

Text with document-grade typography

Any font, three weights, italic. Three artistic effects: shadow, gradient fill and stroke outline. Text background, underline, strikethrough, letter spacing, line height and paragraph alignment — fixed box width or auto-fit, plus rotation and opacity.

  • Artistic text: shadow / gradient / outline, scaled with font size
  • Line height, letter spacing and left/center/right alignment work like your word processor
  • Every property is remembered across sessions — set once, always right

Pin to screen, managed

Pin any capture on your desktop, always on top: drag, 8-way resize, scroll to zoom from center, adjust opacity, rotate freely. After a reboot, every pin comes back exactly where you left it.

  • Pin manager window: thumbnail list with an info panel
  • Re-annotate any pin in the editor
  • Right-click to copy / save / share / reorder

Time Axis: your capture archive

Every screenshot and recording lands in the Time Axis automatically — one chronological list with segments. Drag in images to archive, and re-process any past entry: reannotate, recolor, re-OCR, re-translate, re-export.

  • Screenshots + recordings in one place
  • Five re-actions: reannotate / recolor / re-OCR / re-translate / re-export
  • Storage quota with auto-cleanup; export the timeline as JSON backup

FAQ

Which macOS versions are supported?

macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) and later, natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel.

Are my screenshots uploaded to the cloud?

Never. Capture, recording, OCR and translation all run locally. There are no accounts — no sign-in, no uploads, no analytics, no tracking.

What formats can captures and recordings be exported to?

Screenshots export to PNG / JPG / PDF / GIF / TIFF / HEIC / AVIF. Recordings output MP4 (H.264 or HEVC), plus GIF export with selectable frame rate and width.

Is there a CLI or Shortcuts support?

Both. Run novasnap capture in a terminal to take a region / fullscreen / window shot and get the file path back — perfect for scripts and automation. App Intents also expose Region Capture and Start Recording to the Shortcuts app.

What does translation require?

Translation uses the system Translation framework (offline models) and appears automatically on macOS 15+. On macOS 14, OCR works fully — only the translate entry is hidden.

How do I report a bug or suggest a feature?

Head to the feedback page — you can attach screenshots or a recording. We reply within a few business days to the email you leave.

Is there a Windows / iOS version?

Not yet. We're planning more platforms — tell us what you'd most like to see on the feedback page.
